Enjoy Fresh Cantaloupe

Our cantaloupe season starts down in Immoklee, Florida around last of week of March. The first cantaloupes of season tend to be on smaller size — generally more 180-200 ct, and few 150 ct.

Next, we head to Plant City area where my growers have planted behind strawberry plants. Usually you can count on some larger cantaloupes now 120-100 count size. We can generally pick here for next month as they plant 4-5 plantings in stages here.

Then, we are moving up the coast to Georgia, or Alabama depending on weather and rainfall. Cantaloupe need dry weather the last weeks before picking if threre’s going be much Brix content. You can look to start south Georgia for 10 days, then jump to South Carolina for second half June- first week of July.

By july 4 eveybody in North Carolina is picking cantaloupes, and summer is in full swing. For next month we ship locally in the Carolina’s.

As summer heat begins to work on NC crops, we head west to Kentucky and Indiana areas to finish up summer season.
