Who Is Country Boy?

For more than 20 years, Country Boy Produce has combined generations of farming experience with a trusted network of growers to provide fresh, seasonal produce and dependable wholesale service. Founded in 2004, our story began long before that on a family farm in eastern North Carolina.

Growing up, founder Tim King worked alongside his family raising tobacco, corn, wheat, and beans on their eastern North Carolina farm. As the tobacco industry evolved, the family shifted to growing produce and supplying grocery stores before eventually opening farm markets and produce stands throughout eastern North Carolina.

Those early experiences taught Tim the value of hard work, quality produce, and building lasting relationships with customers. These values continue to guide Country Boy Produce today.

While attending North Carolina State University, Tim opened a roadside produce stand in Cary to help pay for college. Around that time, a neighbor jokingly began calling him the “Country Boy,” and the name stuck.

The name reflected Tim’s belief that people wanted to buy fresh fruits and vegetables from someone who truly understood farming. That belief became the foundation of Country Boy Produce.
